One of the best things about touring is meeting cool people along the way. Last year at our Hooligans show in Jacksonville, North Carolina with Saint Diablo, we met and quickly fell in love with a very special local family, the Mundorfs. They took Hydrovibe in and extended us their renowned generosity and hospitality that night, and we have grown quite close since. They are an amazing family of seven that I’m very proud to call my friends.

The Mundorfs are widely known for amazing support of touring bands – opening their home to musicians, feeding them and providing a place to relax, re-energize, and regroup while on the road. While not many people know (or would care to know) what it’s like to have 3 bands straggling into your home at 4 in the morning… Keith, Lori and the 5 Mundorf children spring into action serving up food, handing out clean towels, and entertaining us with stories of all the recent shows they’ve been to and the latest bands to join the Mundorf extended family. They are a creative, intelligent, generous and loving bunch, and we are always very eager to spend time with them when we are on tour.

This past Christmas, they were struck with a major tragedy – losing everything in a house fire. Hydrovibe and Saint Diablo joined forces to do what we could to help this family in their time of need. On March 19th, we held a benefit concert to raise money for the Mundorfs. It was truly an honor to share the stage once again with Saint Diablo for such a great cause!

(Heather / Hydrovibe and Tito / Saint Diablo at the concert)

The Mundorf house has become a sort of cross-roads for touring musicians… and we’re very grateful to do our part in helping rebuild this haven they have created out of their love of music!

During the show, Kyle Mundorf made posters for his band Black Bandana (pictured below) and sold them at our merch table. He sold a bunch of them too! Thank you very much to all of you who paid admission, purchased Black Bandana posters, and made contributions to the Mundorf donation jar at our table… all proceeds went directly to the Mundorf family. Your support is much needed and highly appreciated!

Many thanks to the guys in Saint Diablo for their assistance with putting this show together and to Hooligans for hosting the event. See y’all in Jacksonville soon!

On tour, we meet all kinds of wonderful people in the military and often hear great stories of heroism and sacrifice. Those stories inspire us and led us to embark on the OPERATION ROCK Tour, which was in dedication to our incredible men and women of the Armed Forces. On our OPERATION ROCK stop at The PowerStation in Macon, Georgia, we met Danielle, who captured our heart. She was set to deploy to Iraq, and we talked about all the men and women sacrificing – leaving their loved ones behind for a purpose far greater than any one person. Danielle is a pilot and is a frequent flier of the not-so-friendly skies over Iraq. She and her fellow military friends at the concert were touched that Hydrovibe was honoring them that night, and she was inspired to fly a United States flag in Hydrovibe’s honor during her next Iraq mission, which she carried out on December 25, 2007.

We caught up with Danielle again this month at our show at The PowerStation, and she presented us the flag she flew over Iraq in our honor and a certificate stating the authenticity. I can’t express how I felt when I looked on the vivid blue with white stars on that flag! To me, it represents every single person who ever took a stand for freedom and has made sacrifices that afford the rest of us the high quality of life we are accustomed to. We all are very humbled and honored to have had this flag flown over Iraq and presented to us. Thank you, Danielle!

Wow! Coming from a beach town in Los Angeles County leaves the rest of the country as quite a culture shock. I’ve been to South Louisiana several times by now but every time I get to learn more about the culture, the people, and music. This time we arrive at The Brickhouse in Houma, Louisiana and going into the venue I already know its going to be an amazing show but what came before the show was something I never got to experience before…..a crawfish boil.Only as of a couple weeks ago did I start to enjoy seafood so I was ready to try a little more. Then, I see these things. They’re fully intact creatures! I was kind of scared to pick one up. To be honest, more like horrified but thats okay! I ask Heather how to eat these things. At this point I’m scared to rip the shell off the crawfish before I go on stage (you know, bass playing fingers and all). After taking the tail off I throw the tail into the “bad” pile and hold the body asking Heather, “Now what do I do”? Looks like you eat the meat off the tail. AHHH! I’m not getting it at this point. Maybe 20 minutes later I’m understanding how to do this, really eat this stuff, and LOVE it! This lead me to a new revelation on the South Louisiana culture.Anyones first time down in this area will quickly realize the family, loving, party, eat up and have a good time spirit. Little things like these crawfish boils seem to really contribute to the whole good spirit of South Louisiana. You get together, eat for as long as you can, have fun, then do it again! After all this we go on to hang with great people and play a great show! It gets better every time with new friends, new fans, and new family. I’m pretty sure I had too good of a time but that works for me. I absolutely can’t wait to return back and do it all again!Eliot
