This month, Hydrovibe played two shows at Bourbon Street in New Port Richey, Florida. The venue is one of our favorites – great stage, amazing sound (thanks, Dave!) and solid ownership (Greg’s a great guy) and top-notch promotions (Russ @ ScotchIrish Productions knows a thing or two…) We have made some great fans and friends in the area as well. So, shows are a guaranteed good time.

But our second July show there was an extra special one… We performed for a WWE scouting match at the club. I have to say, this was the first live wrestling event any of the Hydrovibe boys and girl had ever been to, and we all enjoyed ourselves a lot! After watching some great matches (and spotting some really cool leather cuffs and wrestling boots that I really want!), we got to meet the legendary Dusty Rhodes – a.k.a. “The American Dream.”

According to Steve Slagle of the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame:

Dusty Rhodes is one of the most charismatic, entertaining, and famous wrestlers of all-time. No matter where he went, fans loved this blue-collar hero, and Dusty became one of the WWF’s biggest attractions.

What many Americans love is his triumphant story of how he overcame a rare childhood illness that left him with one leg shorter than the other and amazingly grew up to be a star athlete! For me, this is a great example of overcoming obstacles – choosing to see them as opponents to be defeated rather than something that will defeat you. This theme is exactly what I’m singing about in “Killer Inside.”

The lyrics to “Killer Inside” seem like they are describing the metamorphosis of Saw’s Amanda character from the ex-heroin junkie victim to Jigsaw’s killer apprentice. However, the song itself was written by me and Mat before Saw II was even in theaters, when we were at a bit of a low point in our lives where we had no band and life’s obstacles kept mounting up against us, seemingly threatening the existence of Hydrovibe. We got a call that there might be an opportunity to get a song in Saw III and that they needed us to write and record a song and have it to them in Canada (where the film was being shot) within 24 hours. So, Mat and I wrote a song about reaching deep within ourselves to wake up that inner strength to overcome and to keep fighting for what we believe.

And I think fighting for what you believe in and perservering IS the American Dream.

xx St. Heather

Florida was AWESOME… saw a space shuttle launch and caught a P.A. speaker on fire (a normal day at the office).

The shows were all great and we were able to spend some days off with some friends. We actually got to witness that space shuttle launch as well….man, that thing lights up the sky!!! That was really cool. Unfortunately there was heavy cloud cover, so we weren’t able to see the shuttle once it hit the clouds, but it was impressive nonetheless.

Our show in Coral, Florida was interesting…we started the show with “Fifteen Minutes’ Fame” and got through the first chorus when we threw a breaker and all the power went out. Hilarious! When they got the power back on, we started the chorus again and got through the bridge of the song when we threw the breaker again! It was great! When they got the breaker situation resolved, we got about halfway into the set and I started smelling the awful stench of an electrical fire. Smoke started filling the stage and I looked to my right and saw that the main speaker was actually in flames!!! The guys hurried up and put the fire out and ran the speaker outside and they replaced the speaker quickly so we were able to finish the set! How crazy is that? I’ve never actually seen a speaker set ablaze like that! Aside from all that, the show was great and we had a great time.

We have found that our Florida friends and fans are into road trips – lots of them make drives to several shows in the state (and even out of state), which is really cool. It is always good to see familiar faces! Hope to see y’all again very soon!

The PowerStation in Macon, Georgia on Saturday night was incredible! We absolutely LOVE that place…great people, great stage, great sound, and GREAT FOOD! They always have a huge spread of home-cooked food for the bands…and it is wickedly good! The show itself was great….our fanbase there is growing fast and the people are always very supportive and show love. There is a really good scene brewing there at The PowerStation and we are eager to get back there soon!

Days off are always interesting….you end up sleeping WAY longer than you should and then try to find something entertaining and/or productive to do. Tonight we went the entertaining route. We all stayed up hanging out until 7AM this morning after the drive from Pascagoula, MS to Pensacola, FL and woke up at around 3PM craving Mexican food. Strangely enough, we know this little area that we are staying in because we had stopped here once before on tour last year craving Mexican food and found this great restaurant in Pensacola….and it just so happens that when we booked the hotel last night, we found today that it is walking distance from that restaurant! So, once we finally pulled it together to all venture to the restaurant, we are informed that tonight was $1 margarita night. I knew immediately that feasting on good Mexican food and drinking a bunch of $1 margaritas would ensure that this restaurant would be the first and last stop in our night’s adventure. Lots of great food and many, MANY margaritas later, the Hydrovibe team is a bit sluggish and back in the hotel room….on that downward spiral. We’re headed to play Floyd’s in Tallahassee, Fl tomorrow…should be a hell of a show! Hope to see you on the road somewhere near you soon!

By the way, did anyone catch my interview on Red Eye Radio tonight? When I called in, I was not at all prepared to be live on the air…plus, the connection wasn’t that great, so I didn’t quite understand that it was live for a minute. Funny! I didn’t say anything inappropriate or anything, so it’s all good! Whew! It was good talking to those guys…they’ve been so cool to us and have been very helpful in promoting Hydrovibe.
